A 'Cultural' Weekend
Quiet one this weekend...although was guilt tripped into going to a house party on friday...actually i wanted to go, but needed some convincing. Saturday went to buy my new mountain bike, but i cant actually pick it up until tonight, so that ruled out biking on sunday...which as it turned out was a good thing as it rained heavily non stop all day. Also went to get my hair cut, by the only person in norway who doesnt speak english, and put it this way...do you know the norwegian for 'stop'?? me neither, hence today my ears look much bigger and my head is much colder....yes, its very very short. Sunday, left with the prospect of sitting in all day (most other people had gone away for the weekend to various places) i decided to visit a few museums. the island of bygdoy (picturs the other week of the beach) is very close to where i live, and is home to many many museums. the first one was dedicated to a norwegian explorer who spent 101 days at sea on a straw raft to prove that he could (pretty stubborn if you ask me)...although 5 years later he went on to 'discover' easter island, which interestingly is the most remote place on earth, ie its the furthest point from anywhere else on the planet...you see...i did pay attention to some things
next was the polar exploration museum...which was ok...lots of boats, big coats and snow looking stuff
and lastly the viking ship museum which was a museum with 3 viking ships in...errrm, and that was that.
should pick up my moutnain bike tonight....still having doubts about the cost...but as the salesman told me...'its for the good of my health...imagine the adrenaline pumping through your body...you could easily spend that much money sitting at home getting fat drinking beer watching tv....' oh he was good...
AND today is the day my 'stuff' arrives from the uk, ie most things that i own...well, apart from everything thats been in storage for the past 3 years, but all my stuff from japan, which i havent seen since i left, ie clothes, snowboard, books....stuff. funny that ive managed to survive without it for 3 months...but, will be nice to have my 'stuff' again.
