Udaipur to Delhi

Now...scroll down and remember that road picture i showed you? hang on, ill post it again...well...the journey took 14 solid hours to drive back (in the tiny car). the single track road was death defying during the day, but at night it was horrific. it was nose to tail with slow lorries, both ways. so our driver would pull out to overtake, and if there wasnt a lorry coming straight towards us, we would overtake just before a lorry flew past, if there was, then he would yank the wheel and the car would get back in line with inches to spare from the oncoming lorry. this was done in total darkness, in the desert, with thick fog/pollution. after a while i couldnt look, i had to pretend to sleep or close my eyes. it wasnt actually funny. i was genuinely scared for my life. its one of only 3 times in my life that i thought 'i actually might die here'....it was that scary.

plus, our driver had fallen out with us since jaipur. he wanted to take us everywhere and thought we werent safe on our own...which can be a bit claustraphobic, so in japir, we escaped for 3 hours to explore on our own (we did tell him)...when we returned, his face was like thinder and got angry and asked us if we had a problem with him. same in udaipur. in the morning, we had an hour wandering around on our own, he found out and was very very mad indeed. at this point, his resemblance to saddam hussain didnt go un noticed. so, we set off through the desert with a mardy driver on one of the most dangerous roads in the world. its hard to compress 14 hours of sheer terror into a sentence, but it was hell.

the 'blog photo' pepsi shot wasnt my idea, at a brief food stop, he asked me to come to the back of the restaurant with him...honest to god i thought he was going to shoot me...but he wanted his photo taken on motorbike that was out the back...so i did, then he got me to sit on the bike and took a photo of me, then the pepsi shot...maybe he was trying to make friends again...i dunno, i was too scared to argue. ill find the motorbike photo...you can actually see the look of bemusement/terror on my face!

anyway...in a Team America (film) kind of way, here is 14 hours of hell in one short montage...("everybody loves a montage")
