China - Dongguan
flew to hong kong on sunday with work (current job). was excited about seeing hk, but as it turned out, i was picked up from the airport and driven directly to shenzen on the chinese border, i literally didnt take any photos of hk...gutted. also didnt take any photos of china as it was a business trip and not really the done thing, and we were working all day...took this one from my phone, and kinda encapsulates my week, sitting in a car fearing for my life travelling between many suppliers. the driving there is incredible, so dangerous, no rules at all, you drive on any side of the road, ignore lights and signs and everything, total fucking chaos. thought we were going to die many many times. trip was ok, the chinese are very much into 'corporate hospitality', and being the customer, they did everything possible to make sure i had a good time. sunday night they took me and a dutch guy from the company that are buying microgen out for dinner, then karaoke...now, ill not go into details, but karaoke for businessmen in china differs from any other karaoke in the world...as i say, ill not say anymore, but if youve ever been taken to karaoke by business clients in china, youll know what i mean, (robinson???)
monday night i was shattered, but again, they took us out for dinner..and lo and behold...karaoke again! didnt want to go, but couldnt say no, another late tiring, but wildly entertaining evening...tuesday night i could harldly keep awake...but no...dinner and special karaoke again...i actually fell asleep in this place, was shattered. we basically left the hotel at 8.30am each day, had full working day, then straight out and not back in hotel room until past midnight each night. so so tired. so, didnt see any of hk, and not much of china, apart from roads, hotels and karaoke bars. again though, fascinating place is china, but would never live there.
