Favelas

One thing that i insisted on seeing in sao paulo were the favelas. call it nostalgia back to the days in the...ahem...early nineties of geography gcse classes , but i really wanted to see them...its always good to explore the 'real' culture in places. unfortunately, this is no amusement park, the favelas are really poor and desolate areas, and thus it is really not viable to go and walk amongst the 'real' people...its just too dangerous, and non of my guides would take me inside, but i did have the privilage to see them close up. again, its interesting to see images of them so close to the affluent areas. infact in one district, the favelas stop about 30 metres from one of the most affluent areas of the whole\of sao paulo...that really threw me...pictures below for mr Owen of The City School, Sheffield
