I've thought about it (not for very long) and my conclusion is it's just for playing practical jokes on unsuspecting ship captains
i know...but its a lighthouse...thats a boat...but but.. surely?...no...its a lighthouse to protect boats from...but IT is a boat...
Maybe the captain is just a really bad driver?
