Nihongo
As strange and potentially insignificant to anyone else, i had my first real 100% japanese conversation this morning. Usually my 'conversations' are a mixture of engrish/japanese/and desparate pointing, however this morning must rank as my first actual total japanese conversation. It was when i was at the petrol station (its always attendant service here). The attendant came up to my car window, and the conversation went a little like this...:
Me: Good morning
Attendant: Good morning, what kind of petrol would you like?
Me: High octane please
Attendant: How much would you like?
Me: A full tank please
Attendant: How will you be paying?
Me: Cash
Attendant: (while filling up), Do you smoke? Would you like me to clean your ash tray?
Me: No thanks
Attendant: Are you an english teacher?
Me: No, im an engineer
Attendant: Where do you work?
Me: With a company called Twinbird
Attendant: Oh, in Yoshida?
Me: Yes
Attendant: (after filling up) That will be JPY 6400 please
Me: There you go (giving him money)
Atendant: Thanks, goodbye (mini bow sitting down)
Attendant: Goodbye (bowing)
typing this, it all sounds like a language text book conversation you learn in school, kinda of Janet and John stuff, but honestly, i was kinda chuffed (pleased) with myself, and had a little glow about me for the rest of the journey home...small things eh...
