Early night...
well, its here, getting the 9:09 shinkansen (bullet train) to tokyo. nearly 4 months of training, freezing cold, dark rainy, windy nights on the coast road, instead of being down the pub or wrapped up warm at home. injuries, sore legs and down right boredom sometimes and finally over. going down tomorrow to register and pick up my number etc the race is at 9:10 am on sunday... my good good buddy gareth is also coming downto cheer me on for which i am eternally grateful. my good friend tomomi is also in tokyo visiting friends this weekend, so she said shed also come to support. im quite excited at the moment but also pretty scared, scared of the pain that will inevitably come, and possibly even more scared of failure. ive been reading a few first marathon stories on the internet, and there are some real horror stories in there! all of them end is much much pain! none which will comapre though if i dont finish.
im aiming for between 4 to 4.5 hours. any quicker than 4 hours and i would have cheated and missed a part out! any longer than 4.5 hours something would not have gone to plan, anything over 5 hours and something has gone very wrong.
to al lthose that have sponsored me, many many thanks, for those that haven't...then theres still time.
right, early start equals early night. next time i log on, it will be sunday evening...over and done either way...
cheers
incidentally, this is the 1st ever tokyo marathon. i found out yesterday that it was over subscribed by 10x, ie for every place given, 9 other people were rejected! i can only assume that my geijinness got me in? who knows...pretty 'lucky' though.

All the best!! No matter what the outcome, it'll be a experience to remember. ;)
is it true that they opened the marathon with this poem???
Don't Quit
When things go wrong, as they sometimes will
When the road you're trudging seems all uphill
When the funds are low and the debts are high
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh
When care is pressing you down a bit
Rest, you must - but don't you quit
Life is queer with its twists and turns
As everyone of us sometimes learns
And many a failure turns about
When he might have won had he stuck it out
Don't give up, though the pace seems slow
You might succeed with another blow
Success is failure turned inside out, the silver tint of the clouds of doubt
And you never can tell how close you are, It may be near when it seems so far
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit
It's when things seem worst, That you MUST NOT QUIT!
Touching.
but i still think it was the other suggestion that got you across the line...haha
WELL DONE MATE
-x-
